Customizing the modern reports functionality wastes time -

When customizing reports, the system processes each change immediately, even while you’re still making selections. It may seem minor, but the repeated waiting quickly adds up for your clients—especially if you accidentally select the wrong option and have to wait again for it to reverse.

Batch customization with a single report refresh. You can now apply all their desired customizations at once, such as filters, added columns, and layout changes, and refresh the report a single time. This eliminates the repeated reloads that previously happened after every individual customization, making the experience significantly faster.

When configuring reports, disable auto-generate/auto-update until enabled by user

I can see how report auto-generate/auto-update function may be considered to be an improvement over the Classic View's Generate Report button. However, some reports in the default state are very large (e.g. General Ledger). I need to run a GL report for a single account, with a very manageable amount of data, and set up a filter for that account (as Distribution Account). However, before I have a chance to configure the filters, the report runs (without filters), trying to pull in all the accounts' data, and half the time it fails. I would suggest that you bring back the Run/Update button, which is by default disabled, so that users can make necessary configurations before the report is run/updated.

We completely hear you on this, and we know how frustrating it can be when the report refreshes after every single customization. That is not the experience we want for you, and we are actively working to make it better.
Here is a sneak peek at what is coming. You will be able to configure all of this together and then apply everything in one go, without the report refreshing in between each change.
We are already rolling this out gradually to a small percentage of customers and are on track to make it available to everyone by the end of next week.
Please take a moment to watch the video for a preview of what is coming, we think you are going to love it!

I submitted this feedback in-product a couple of months ago. I'll just add here what I submitted there:
STOP the AutoRefresh of the report for each and every filter and column that I modify. It is SUPER ANNOYING and TIME WASTING to need to add 3 columns and add 2 filters and not be able to make those 5 changes and THEN reload the report. I have to WAIT for the report to refresh FIVE TIMES. Once for each of the 5 changes I needed to make. This is VERY BAD. Excel has a feature when updating pivot tables that allows you to uncheck autorefresh and when you are done making all the filter and field changes, you can then press refresh. QB Desktop allowed you to do a ton of customization to the report (columns, filters, formatting, etc.) and then you would click okay and only have to watch it load ONE TIME.
