In the classic trial balance, where an account has sub-accounts, the account number which is presented at the top of the description is that specific line's account number. In the modern version, that account number is buried in the details. Our clients, who all built templates based on being able to easily pull the account number easily and without a lot of extra work, and who want to be able to review the TB and easily find the account they are looking for, are furious with us, because they think we're responsible for this format.
