Why can't we sort modern reports by customer? I click into Undeposited funds on the BS, I used to be able to sort by customer and I used to be able to see who was the issue/outsanding. Now I have to download to excel to do the same thing. We need to be able to sort by customer in ALL reports and they ALL need to sort alphabetically.

There are still some corner cases that needs to be fixed. Hence, moving this to 'planned' status and we are actively working on this.

Subhanan Sahoo best recommendation is to NOT force modern reports or debunk them all together. They have become quite a headache!

Reports in modern view do not automatically sort alphabetically. The P&L shows up out of order which is frustrating enough, but we're also unable to get critical customer reports to sort alphabetically. Customers are LastName, FirstName, but even when grouping is used, they're out of order. Grouping helps the alpha-sorting, but then the transactions aren't in date order - we have to either customize the report to isolate the single client we're looking at or dump the report into Excel. Our workflows are severely impacted by modern reporting issues. We've been reporting the issues repeatedly since modern first showed up, but nothing has been updated to work properly. I hope this is fixed before all of our customized reports in classic are gone.

We will need to ask you contact our support team to troubleshoot precisely what you are encountering.
When running a Standard Profit and loss the report will be broken down into "sections" EG Income, Expenses , Net Operating Income , etc. Within each section each account will be listed in Alpha Numeric order. Keep in mind Parent + Sub accounts are kept together within a given section which can result in some things appearing to be out of alpha numeric order. I've attached a screen shot for reference (P & L Standard Sorting)
When running a "Sales by Customer Detail" the report sill by default be grouped by Customer listed in alpha numeric order. Each transaction for a single customer will be listed directly under the customer name and listed in order of date (oldest to newest). I've attached a screen shot for reference (Sales by Customer Detail Sorting).
If you are experiencing any other behavior, we need to troubleshoot it live with a support export and gather all the appropriate information to address it properly.
You can contact support by navigating under the Question Mark icon in the upper right corner while logged into QuickBooks Online for Accountants or Intuit Accountant Suite, choosing "Contact Us" and selecting your preferred contact method.
I hope this helps and have a wonderful day

John Richardson No, unfortunately this doesn't help. The P&L in Modern view does not sort in alphabetical order under the category headings. We see Payroll above Advertising, for example. This has been a huge problem since Modern was introduced. I wasn't referring to the Sales by Customer Detail report; I was referring to a liability report sorted by customer - alphanumeric sorting doesn't work unless we isolate a single customer, otherwise we have to drop it into Excel to manipulate. It's a huge time suck. Support team has been less than supportive when reaching out with these issues. But, another post on this site now states that these are known issues that are being worked on.

Hi Adrienne,
Great News! The new modern reports does have the functionality to "sort by" various columns and fields. For instance, if I run a Balance Sheet, drill down into Undeposited Funds (payments to be deposited), and then group by "Customer", I can click on the Customer column header to sort by customer name in alpha-numeric order. Additionally, I can click on the Balance column header to sort in ascending or descending order of balance.
Attached is a video of it in action.

I use the Sort function on P&L Detail reports to group by name so I can see if a vendor is sticking out in the wrong place. This has been removed from Modern Reports. Please restore.
