I have a client who does not use QB Payments because it's just not necessary for her. She was surprised to receive an email that one of her customers could select an option to pay via ACH. My client said she would do it this one time, but it was very confusing and she didn't feel comfortable with the process. This is a comment from my client: "I really resent QB’s change — This took so much extra time and they get 1%."
This is unfortunate, as it was additional administrative time and effort for me as well, and makes me look bad as the one who set her up with QBO.

I completely agree. Esp certain Bank feed options that cause a ton of issues because they are automatically turned on for new accounts where the user has ZERO knowledge of how to use QBO yet, let alone understand the implications of that particular setting. Everything that's set up to "help" the user should be as an Opt-IN instead of automatically turned on.

Same for Projects- you defaulted to on during a Quickbooks Desktop to Online conversion and you cannot make Projects into Sub-customers, but you can make sub-customers into Projects. Unfortunately, their app that they use does not use projects, it uses Sub-customers. Because we had already completed a 4-week nightmare conversion of their payroll which did not work with the built-in tool in QBO to convert properly, we could not go back and re-do the conversion (we had already completed 2 attempts at the conversion process with payroll and QB Time being the issues). So now, we are stuck with half of their jobs as projects and half as sub-customers. A really rotten experience. It made me look bad to the client - they had already given up on the conversion once before because of issues two years ago with their CPA. The only reason they are now on QBO and staying with it is their app does not integrate with anything else.

Ouch - Jill that must have been uncomfortable!
I sent out a blast email in anticipation of the coming changes. Of course, some clients ignored my email and Intuit's emails and panicked when they logged in to get work done and their files were changed. Others were calmer, thanked me for the heads up and made appointments when their QBO changed. All this can be avoided by alert in QBO (not email).

Agreed! This change - and defaulting to auto on - cost me a couple hundred in administrative time warning my clients about it. Luckily we haven’t had any accidental usage of QB Payments so far. clients have specific payment options and workflows.

I agree -- there have been other instances where this has caused serious issues for clients: like the auto-add Vendors (which left a mess to clean up). The fact that we as Proadvisors aren't informed in advance doesn't help either. I think new features that will have affects should be left off by default.
