Several banks are not staying connected

We are experiencing severe disruption with several banks that will not stay connected. We have completely taken them down and started over, had the owner make the connections, but the moment we reconnect them they instantly need reconnection. Even when connected, Statements aren't available. This is happening with Umpqua, BMO, F&A, and OnPoint.

Hi all - after taking a look at some of the shared company files and banks, many of them are getting into errors because of a multi-factor authentication requirement from the banks. What this means is that the credential owner will receive a code to enter in QuickBooks before the latest transactions will import. There is no need to disconnect the connection; you should be see an area to enter the code in QuickBooks. If you are not seeing the ability to enter in the code, please let us know in this thread.
I understand the frustration and impact to workflows this constant error may cause to you and your clients. Some banks are stricter than others when it comes to requiring MFAs, but I will continue to share this feedback internally to explore how we can reduce some of the friction. However, if you or your client is running into constant disconnections that are not due this particular error, I also shared some common situations in the thread above. If those do not apply, I'm happy to help take a further look.

My client has to reconnect the banks every time I go into the books. This is a big hassle and a lot of wasted time for my client.

I have this issue with Interra Credit Union with multiple clients. As others have stated, you reconnect, it refreshes, you try to refresh again and it's disconnected. No one else is in the file, no one else was logging into the bank. Every once in a while you can refresh a second time but that is very rare.

John Leichty: does the credit union have multi-factor authentication (MFA)? Some banks require every refresh to have a MFA and requires users to enter a code. If the issue is not related to this, would like to follow up with more information for this client (ie. company ID). You can also email the companyID to me separately.

Nicholas Guan They do require the MFA. It seems like in the past there have been other banks I have dealt with connections in QBO and they require MFA every time you login to their bank but not when QBO is connected. I could be wrong, but it seems like this didn't used to be an issue. Like a two or three years ago.

Hi all! Thanks so much for reaching out. So that the team can have more directed help, could you provide more information as to how the connections are set up, and if the same bank login is being used across multiple QuickBooks files?
------
When the same bank login is used across multiple QuickBooks files, there are a couple of things that need to be in place to keep the connection stable:
- The same QuickBooks user should manage the bank connection across all files. If one person connects the bank to Company A and someone else later uses those same credentials for Company B, the bank will drop the original connection.
- At the bank's account selection screen, please have your client select all accounts, even if a particular QuickBooks file only needs a few of them. Leaving any unselected can trigger disconnects.
Let me know if these situations apply.

Nicholas Guan This is a single QB file and it is issues with connecting bank to QB like always!!! Nothing has changed on login info or password or anything else. Thanks

Miriam Counts: I'll send you an email to collect more information about this particular client.

Nicholas Guan We have done all possible corrections - disconnected all banks completely and reconnected. I have one client on Unitus in particular where he will connect it, Update, then it loads the current batch of transactions and disconnects again. It doesn't matter whether he restores the connection or I do. We are unable to work on his books at all.

Alicia Pollock: Following up here, apologies for the delay. I was able to take a look at the company file and I see that Unitus is requiring a multi-factor authentication for every refresh. I will bring this back to the team to look into.
However, if you are not seeing the ability to even enter the MFA code anywhere within the bank transactions page, please let us know.

Nicholas Guan I have the business owner doing the connections. I don't know if it's asking him to enter the MFA codes or not. Can you reach out to him? He's the Primary Admin on the account.

Alicia Pollock: yes, I will share with the team and reach out.
